At this year’s 2017 North American Auto Show, Toyota’s chief engineer, Masato Katsumata, revealed that the next generation hybrid Camry will come with two different battery pack options. The lower priced base hybrid Camry will retain the nickle-metal-hydride pack, which has proven to be quite resilient since the birth of Toyotas hybrids, while all higher trim version will implement a lithium ion pack. Also new will be an update to the Toyota Synergy Drive hybrid system to what is being called Toyota Hybrid System II.
So, like the upcoming Prius, the new Camry too will implement the newest generation battery technology, which provides greater capacity with a smaller battery, resulting in overall improved mileage on all of Toyota’s hybrid vehicles.
