Batteries seem to be making their way into more and more cars, even at the highest level of the automotive world – racing. Formula E has been in existence for a few years already, and its popularity is slowly growing. Personally, we prefer the sound of a loud, typical Formula 1 race car, to the almost silent Formula E cars, but they are still exciting to watch.
Here is an up-close photo of Renault’s Formula E race car as well as the Lithium Ion battery pack, which is the cars power source. The newest Formula E battery specs for the 2018-2019 seasons are; 250kg (551 lbs) 54 kWh energy, with peak power going up to 250 kW. The batteries initially were designed and engineered by Williams Advanced Engineering; and is one the official battery suppliers for Formula E racing. McLaren Applied Technologies will also be producing batteries.
